A brief Colombo visit

I flew back by Sri Lankan airlines and they had a one night stopover at Colombo. I was put up in a beach resort. A resort which was affected by the Tsunami!

The flight takes 45 minutes from Trivandrum. The city reminds you of Kerala, the same scenery but I think maybe a bit more beautiful than Kerala.

The beaches are not as crowded as the beaches in India. No I am not even going near the Juhu beach (that number there would be higher than the population of many a small city in some other country), but say something like Shanghumughom beach (TVM city beach).

Caught some guys playing cricket. This country is very cricket crazy, that is for sure.

Here is the guy trying to whack the ball to the sea!

I took a walk outside and was quite impressed by the narrow roads with the wide footpaths. It was raining and hence the wet roads. But when I look at it, its like any other small road in Kerala but the footpath is an addendum!

Devi Temple Festival

One of my neighbours in Trivandrum is a Devi Temple. My visit this time coincided with their festival and I had 3 full days of continous music, ranging from religious songs to melodious mallu songs to racy tamil songs.

See those loudspeakers, well they are right opposite my house.

There was a pandal on our house terrace where food was served for some 400 people in the locality. The temple trustees were sponsoring it and we agreed to give our premise for the cooking and serving of food. So we had a nice free-meal all the three days.

And then this huge black guy came on the last day for the festivities. There is he standing in front of my house.

This is the best part of the festival. You can check out the video

Then similar to the famous Attukal pongala, we had a local pongala
