Something for Mumbai

Everytime I see the well oiled public transport system in countries like Malaysia, Thailand & Singaporem, I always dreamt of when an Indian city would take cue from these cities and do a complete revamp of their infrastructure. The closest one came to is in Delhi. Very soon the Delhi metro would have a track length of 245 kms touching upon most of Delhi & its suburbs

Mumbai locals carry 6 million passengers daily. So what? Ya so what. There is one station in Japan which handles 3 million people on a single day!!!! Well that is something. As long as we create a system that can handle multiple entry/exits points, a good feeder system to and from the station, anything is possible. This particular station in Japan has some 260 odd exit points and is in 3 different levels and is able to do it on a day to day basis.

Well I did not dog for this data, but Hindustan Times did. They are doing a
special feature on Mumbai covering all the developments that are projected to happen in Mumbai in the next 5-10 years. It is some innovative journalism and its an awareness creation for every Mumbaikar and anyone who wants to read about Mumbai.

There are some really classy projects happening right from the Locals, the new metro being planned, the great Bandra-Worli Sealink, the new airconditioned taxis. Trust me if you like Mumbai and want to see it being the next big thing, read it, you will like it.

All I can do is hope that atleast 30% of what is discussed will happen in our lifetime.
